The Somerset Area School District will soon be participating in a twenty day Artist in Residence program, with local artist Kathy Trexel Reed.
The purpose of residency programs is to place practicing artists in schools and community settings and to facilitate interaction between the artist, students, staff, and community.
Mrs. Reed will be introducing the art of paper-cutting to art students of different grade levels and to Somerset district's teachers in a workshop. Adaptations of paper-cutting techniques for different skill levels, and a variety of multi-cultural influences will be part of the program. Students will experience using cut-paper as their medium of expression as they design and create their original paper-art.
This residency is being fully funded by SAMA, the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art, and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.
