  • Dear Golden Eagles and Families: Today, the Governor announced that all Pennsylvania schools are closed indefinitely. Two weeks’ worth of review learning materials are in the mail and should arrive in your homes this week. Additional materials will be provided as the school closure continues.

In addition to the learning materials you receive, teachers will be holding office hours to provide assistance using a conference call service called Zoom. Students will have the opportunity to call in to speak to their teachers via telephone during those scheduled office hours. All of this information and specific calling instructions are included in the mailing. Internet service and/or computers are NOT required for this service—just a phone line is needed.

We miss you, Golden Eagles, and we look forward to reconnecting, even if it’s only by telephone!

Dear Golden Eagle Students and Families:

At 2:08 PM today, we learned that the Governor has extended the COVID-19 school closure up to and including April 6, 2020. We know this entire closure is an unprecedented event that has left everyone with many, many unanswered questions about education and other matters.

Students and parents/guardians should be aware that PSSA, Keystone, NOCTI, and NIMS exams have been canceled for this year. This is the one piece of concrete information schools have received. We have yet to be given details about whether the State will require missed student days to be made up by June 30, 2020. We are hopeful that is not the case; however, even though various states of emergency have been declared, this question remains unanswered.

Our first free lunch service began today, with 197 lunches being picked up at the Junior High School entrance. We are happy to be able to provide this service as part of the National School Lunch Program. Beginning tomorrow, breakfast will be included with lunch. In addition, pickup locations are being considered.

Students should know that their teachers, staff members, and administrators miss them. We are particularly concerned about members of the Class of 2020, whose senior years are certainly not going as planned. Please know that as soon as the District is permitted, we’ll do our best to give you at least some of the wonderful senior year experiences everyone wishes for you.

We will continue to keep our Golden Eagle Community updated as often as possible, via our electronic call system (ECS), the District’s Facebook page, and the District website. Please look for upcoming information about opportunities the District will provide to provide continuity of education for our students.

Golden Eagles: We miss you and sincerely hope you are staying healthy. We are looking forward to seeing you as soon as school is permitted to reopen!

  • Dear SASD Families,

The Somerset Area School District will be partnering with Metz Food Service to provide meals to families during this unprecedented time.  Grab-and-go lunches will be offered Monday through Friday at the location and time listed below.  This is being provided to all students ages 18 and under at no cost.

Where: Somerset Area Junior Senior High School

*Enter the circle and curbside delivery will be provided outside of the Junior High entrance. Please stay in your vehicles.

    When: Beginning Monday, March 23rd

    Time: 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

Please be patient with this process as we adjust to the quantities of food that will be needed.

Additional locations and times are being considered and will be communicated through our Emergency Communication System and posted on the District-sponsored Facebook page and District website if changes are made.  Remember to practice social distancing of at least six feet and avoid gathering in large groups.  This will ensure the safety of all students, parents, and employees and contribute to the rapid distribution of meals.
