• Scholastic Quiz Team

Scholastic Quiz Team is a group of students who answer questions on a variety of topics. The game is played with a lockout buzzer system between teams, most commonly two teams of four players each. A moderator reads questions to the teams, whose players must buzz in first with the correct answer, scoring points for their team. Tryouts are held to determine who will compete on the teams.  All activities involve interscholastic competitions.

All students in grades six through twelve are eligible to participate on a Scholastic Quiz Team. Scholastic Quiz competitions for the senior high run from September through December for students in grades 9-12.  Junior high students practice year round and both the junior high and senior high teams compete in the Somerset County Scholastic Quiz Team event in the spring.  Grades 6-8 compete in In House competitions against students from Somerset.

Somerset has had middle school quiz teams qualify to participate in the national tournaments that were held in Chicago, Dallas, and Atlanta (two years).  Both the junior high and senior high teams have placed first at the Somerset County competition as well.

Students in grades 6-9 interested in participating in the junior high quiz team events should contact Mrs. Pile in Room 258. Students in grades 9-12 can contact Mr. Kreinbrook in room 264. Note: students in grade nine can compete on both the junior and senior high teams.  Additional practices are held prior to competitions if schedules permit.
