Third Grade:English Language ArtsA Little About My Teaching Career...My name is Katie Bobby, and I am excited to be starting my tenth year as a third grade teacher at Somerset Area School District. This is my fifteenth year teaching, and I am excited by the opportunity to be able to continue to focus exclusively on English Language Arts, a subject area that I have always been passionate about. I am looking forward to carrying the success of my past classes over to the coming years. On October 31, 2018, I received the surprise of a lifetime when I was named as a recipient of the Milken Educator Award, a national award for excellence in teaching. I was honored to receive the recognition, but I was even more excited to be given the opportunity to shine a spotlight on all of the good work being done here in the Somerset Area School District. I will be forever grateful to the administration and to my fellow educators at Eagle View for giving me a place to plant my roots and blossom as a teacher.A Little About My Own Education...I attended Bishop Carroll High School in Ebensburg, PA, before obtaining my B.S. in Elementary/Special Education from Saint Francis University in 2005. I took 8 additional education courses through Carlow University during the first few years of my teaching career. In February 2020, I obtained my Masters of Education in Instructional Design from Western Governer's University.A Little About Me...-My current classroom theme is Star Wars. Princess Leia was one of my childhood heroes!-I enjoy drawing, painting, and creating! I've always wanted to illustrate children's books.-I like to bake cookies and decorate cakes/cupcakes. :)-I love, love, LOVE music. In fact, my three children have musically-inspired names: Lennon (after John Lennon of The Beatles), Van (after Van Morrison), and Rosalita (after my favorite Bruce Springsteen song).-My husband Mike is also an educator. He teaches high school math, and he rocks at it. :)-I have seven brothers and sisters, and I count them among my best friends.-Reading has always been one of my favorite pastimes, and now I get to encourage kids to take part in this beloved activity, too!! My heart smiles every time one of my students falls in love with a book!To Contact Me...I always welcome parent input.
