Members of the Health Sciences Club recently participated in an open-heart surgery observation at Allegheny General Hospital. Students observed a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure, with the surgeon wearing a camera that allowed them to follow each step of the surgery in real time. A medical professional knowledgeable about the procedure explained what was happening throughout the operation. Students also learned about the collaborative team of specialists in the operating room who work together to successfully perform the surgery.
